So this is something that I never really thought of, but the other day I was at Trader Joe’s grocery shopping and I accidentally bought rolled oats instead of the normal instant oats. So you know, no big deal, I have to cook them a little longer… BUT what I did notice was that eating these oats made me feel sooooooo much fuller!!! Who knew right?! So I did a little research and here’s what I found!!!! Good info to know….
Yes there is no difference between the oats… You’re still getting healthy plain oats, BUT what does change is the state of which we are consuming them. Instant oats are a processed version of the whole oat groat. They are cut and steamed so that they become easier and faster to cook. Steel Cut oats on the other hand, is the entire whole oat groat which is why it takes longer to cook and thus when we consume them takes longer for us to break down and digest, leaving us FULLER for a LONGER period of time! Same thing with rolled oats… They are an in-between instant and steel cut, having just been cut and rolled but not yet steamed. So yes it does take a little extra time, but buying your oats even just rolled will pay off for you in the long run!
